This came from my favorite part of Eva Antonia Wilber-Cruce’s book, A Beautiful, Cruel Country wherein she describes the event after a flood in Arizone when an Indian woman digs up the bones of her baby who drowned. I know, a sad story, but it impressed me. On seeing the painting, a Catholic acquaintance of mine said it made him think of the Church rescuing the bones of religion. Hmmm, interesting.
